Re: Outlining a script

Ahhh, scripty notes. Even I don't know how to properly break down a script like a script supervisor. That's an art in itself, frankly! Watching our script supervisors cleanly glide through the dialogue beats on any set is a masterclass in itself.

The Hell With This Podcast #69 - "Girls" (2012-2017)

Ep. 69 - "Girls" (2012-2017) Dogs and cats. LIVING TOGETHER. MASS HYSTERIA. That's right - our movie podcast is doing something strange this week. We're talking about a TELEVISION SHOW. You've heard of those, right? After all, we're supposedly in the "Golden Age" of TV right now - so it's time we fi...

I just learned that you can make lines on your script to visualize what shots are needed and prioritize for shooting efficiency so, I'm just going to sit in the back and take notes here.
haha, how do you mean? Writing notes on a script? Or writing camera moves into your script itself?

Re: Outlining a script

I'm not sure I've ever really had a process for this. It has changed so much over the years. Early on, I never wanted to outline - felt like it was too restrictive and left me feeling trapped if another, better idea came along further on down the road. Then, I got into the habit of first writing out...

hahah well now I want to see it. The trailer looked technically unimpressive, but the story seemed OK.

Re: ITT Moby dates Natalie Portman

Can't wait for Natalie to say something like "oh my god, some creepo made a movie called 'sex, drugs and natalie portman' ages ago." At this point, hopefully that doesn't happen when we both (eventually) are working on the same film set. *cringe* Suddenly there's a very "Being John Malcovich"- type...

Re: It Follows

I simply loved the imagery of that film. The slow, creepy way you would see "it" in the distance, walking toward you. There are several shots in the movie where "it" can be seen randomly coming toward you, even though it isn't the focus of the scene. Exactly. You're constantly searching the frame f...

Re: ITT Moby dates Natalie Portman

This gives me anxiety. As presented in its ORIGINAL (film school) edited form (complete with one digital drop-out, because the master tapes are old and frail). There was a different version with a VERY SLIGHT re-edit and new music (*licensed* music) that released with the Drugs DVDs later on. https:...

Re: It Follows

haha, someone wrote a spec script? Was it a fan fiction? On an aside: you may love (or absolutely hate) this director's follow-up film "Under the Silver Lake", now available via digital rental, etc. Be sure to clear your calendar - it's a long one. Okay, back on topic. I imagine the kids would move ...

Re: ITT Moby dates Natalie Portman

Ah yes, this was a fun topic "back in the day". Funny how times have changed. No one blinked an eye back then (2002?) and it was very public knowledge that they were hanging out - and I think I recall Natalie even stating "we're friends" in an interview back then... but here we are. Can't wait for N...

Re: ITT: Social Media

Social media reached the point where the signal-to-noise ratio just isn't acceptable to anybody who values their time. I'd kinda expect a resurgence in forums, but thoughtful discourse requires an attention span - where the lack of which I mostly blame the internet in general, not social media. Edi...

ITT: Social Media

Anybody else find it... odd that the social media-verse has come to a screeching halt? As in, there was myspace, friendster, then Facebook, twitter, instagram........ and did every intelligent site designer throw in the towel and give up? I've been looking for somewhere to leave Facebook for, to esc...

Re: The Hell With This Podcast #68 - "The Ice Pirates" (1984)

Ha ha ha, you guys kept circling around it but never landed on it, it is a parody of the bad sci fi moves of the time. I get that it doesn't hold up these days with movies like Deadpool and such, but come on, this was absurdly stupid/funny in 1984 when I was eleven. At the time, all of these actors...

Re: The Hell With This Podcast #68 - "The Ice Pirates" (1984)

You each summed it beautifully in two separate sentence fragments put together: "You can do anything you want in the view of the lens and...this is what they chose to film" - "like, how cheesy and tacky it is." That's it. That's all there is to it. Anything more than that is overinterpretation, try...

hahaha *slowly backs away*

We - or at least *I* - had fun with it. Mark and I were missing the nostalgia aspect of it, so it was hard for us to wrap our tiny brains around.
