Re: NYC
He heard about my trademark walking tour and didn't feel he had it in him. I blame all that time in a car-culture area.

Re: Outlining a script
I'm a devotee of the Save the Cat beat sheet. I do not start a script until I have my beat sheet in place.
I'm much better at answering "What must happen in order to fulfill the requirements of X" than "What should happen next?"

What I always say is that if you get into a festival that's good enough to require a DCP, it's a good problem to have.

how do you think he's listed in my phone You picked a good time to move to Brooklyn. Apparently they're not shutting the L train down after all. Which means you have one less excuse to come see my play go up in March. When it warms up a little I can take you on one of my patented death march walking...

I liked your small subtle camera movement in the opening, and your use of shadow. A quibble: “thier” in the opening titles should be “their”. I thought the cuts of the car driving sequence came together well. The zoom on the lighter was perhaps an example of an effect out of nowhere that I didn’t th...

Re: The Hell With This Podcast #66 - "American Movie" (1999)
A few disconnected thoughts on this movie, which, yes, everyone should watch. • Something I find striking is that Mark actually has talent. Yes, his ambition exceeds his resources, but some of his images are awfully striking. • A few years ago I was writing a script and among the characters were a p...

Back to the Future is about a kid from 1985 who travels back in time to 1955.You’re right! I was thinking this earlier when someone pointed out that “That 70s Show” would be “That 90s Show” if made today with the same timespan.
We are farther from 1985 now than it was from 1955.

Editing: Hard drives in the mail, man. It would only get expensive if the Europeans want to get involved. :p Editors could pop a drive in the mail plus a ten-dollar bill to the director. Much cheaper and faster in the long run than figuring out where to put hundreds of gigs of footage.

I loved making fancy DVDs with DVD Studio Pro, which I guess I won't be doing much of seeing as Apple killed it and never made a replacement.
I don't know how to make a fancy Blu-Ray with custom menus and such. I don't know if you can even buy a program that does such a thing.

Re: ITT: Most Complete TV Series of ALL TIME?
"Frasier" ran 11 seasons and there's no season you have to make an excuse for. Granted, there are individual bad episodes, and one arc in particular I find a trial to watch (six or seven episodes with Jean Smart as a guest star character who rubs me the wrong way somehow). And there's generally one ...

NO SPOILERS When it was over I turned to my viewing companions and said "There's a lot to take in here." That's a good thing, I think. I agree with Bryan about not feeling excited for the next movie, but I think I know why. I have no idea what the next movie will be. None at all. After we saw TPM an...

Re: "Till Death Do Us Part" c.2000
I don't think I ever saw this one! This is the first time I've heard 'Quaylar' in ages, I mused, and then the name 'Natalie' came along. Really having some fun with the names there, ha ha! I liked the tough chick who played Natalie. I liked what you did with light vs. shadow as the film went on. I t...

I guess I somehow missed this one.
Man, that logo brought back some memories.
Audio's a problem.
I really liked the rooms and how you dressed them… it had a lot of texture, it was visually interesting and still clearly read as a girl's room, all those wacky pillows and animal prints, ha ha.

Remember when setting up an IMDB page was a massive effort and getting an IMDB page meant you were treated as a god? I used to be sort of the IMDB Fairy for student film at Northwestern, tracking down which films had gotten into fests and getting them listings and adding everyone's name. For years ...

Reddit. That's about it. And I read a lot of Twitter, but I don't have, like, a million e-friendships there. I also read the comment threads at Birth Movies Death, but I don't post (I don't even have an account)—still, lot of actual decent discussion there. I got de-modded from TFN for not showing u...

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread
Last movie I saw in theatres was "mother!", a movie people either love or hate. I'm in the love camp. My most recent 'movie nobody's heard of I'm recommending like a madman' is "Girl Asleep", a quirky Australian comedy with fantastical elements. I'm blatantly copy-pasting this from Facebook: This is...

Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations
1. Star Wars has a lot of fantasy elements to it, almost more in common with epic fantasy than most hard sci-fi or space opera. This is why I have such a fondness for the 1976 novelization of ANH. It's a version of the story that _thinks_ the movie is something more like hard sci-fi. It's Star Wars...

Re: Untitled Australian Roadtrip Movie
Had you been to these places in Australia before? I mean, did you have ideas of the visuals and how it was all gonna look on the roads and such before you went, or was the idea to be surprised by the visuals and just find places to shoot as you went? As for people being nice on the road - you know, ...
