Re: ITT: We cheat on NP2k

Reddit. That's about it. And I read a lot of Twitter, but I don't have, like, a million e-friendships there. I also read the comment threads at Birth Movies Death, but I don't post (I don't even have an account)—still, lot of actual decent discussion there. I got de-modded from TFN for not showing u...

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

Last movie I saw in theatres was "mother!", a movie people either love or hate. I'm in the love camp. My most recent 'movie nobody's heard of I'm recommending like a madman' is "Girl Asleep", a quirky Australian comedy with fantastical elements. I'm blatantly copy-pasting this from Facebook: This is...

Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations

1. Star Wars has a lot of fantasy elements to it, almost more in common with epic fantasy than most hard sci-fi or space opera. This is why I have such a fondness for the 1976 novelization of ANH. It's a version of the story that _thinks_ the movie is something more like hard sci-fi. It's Star Wars...

Re: Untitled Australian Roadtrip Movie

Had you been to these places in Australia before? I mean, did you have ideas of the visuals and how it was all gonna look on the roads and such before you went, or was the idea to be surprised by the visuals and just find places to shoot as you went? As for people being nice on the road - you know, ...

Re: In which we discuss the things for which we are paid...

Put my hand in on two more feature edits this year, albeit in limited capacity: "The Dirty Kind", a 1970s-ish scummy-criminals and crusading-detective-who-gets-rolled movie — supervising editor "The Garden Left Behind", a drama about a trans woman who drives a cab, featuring Michael Madsen and Ed As...

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

I finally got around to "Moonlight" and want to make some notes, as I suspect I'll want to discuss these topics when I do my annual "Oscar-winning movies I watched this year" post. I liked how it bent some rules of Hollywood storytelling. It's almost three smaller films in one than it is one movie. ...

Re: The Hell With This Podcast #32 - The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

I liked this movie all right, but my line about it is, this is the movie people who don't like Gilliam imagine when they think of Gilliam.

"The Zero Theorem" is far more successful in my opinion.

… Although I haven't seen either since theaters. (erk)

Re: TV: What are you currently watching?

I don't subscribe to Hulu but it's probably good that I won't see Handmaid's Tale until all the thinkpieces about Art In the Age of Trump calm down. Big exciting week in TV for the Adamster; three live musicals announced this week. I eat that shit up with a spoon. "Jesus Christ Superstar" in particu...

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

"In the Treetops" - copy-and-pasted from my Facebook post because I'm lazy It ain't gonna be my top movie of the year or anything, but a fellow wants to get behind a good movie that's obscure. The fact that such a strong film was made by college students (UNC School of the Arts) is awfully impressiv...

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

I attempted to watch "Ishtar" today.

It's not God-awful as its reputation suggests. It's just a bore. Elaine May is not in her wheelhouse and it shows. But if it hadn't cost so much, if the behind-the-scenes stories hadn't been so grand, it would have just been a forgotten, crummy movie.

Re: The ones that got away...

Only one project of mine fits that bill: "And the Earth Will Be Lost to the Flames" … which just lined up its third festival screening. Let me explain. It's a deadpan comedy about a doomsday prophet, you know the type, end-of-the-world signs and stuff. We would interview her in her apartment, but al...

Re: Chad & Mark's Untitled Podcast #9 - About Time

I only saw this flick but I liked it—the subway montage is quite remarkable. Sort of a companion to the also-written-by-Curtis "Notting Hill"'s long walk through the market in that it's the one really great scene in a perfectly pleasant but cinematically-nothing-special movie. I'm a fan of Richard C...

Re: In this thread: everyone disappears

Some nice news: I got a feature to edit today. It's a no-budget indie and I ain't bein' paid a whole lot, but I'm pleased nonetheless. This will be my fifth feature, and my first since Rico's "Stay Cold, Stay Hungry" where I'm editing it from the ground up, no rough cut, no coming on board in the mi...

Check out "Night Shift", a short photographed by our own Rico, if you can!

Also look out for Kent from the TWOTE shoot, representing Bleecker Street. He wears a beard now. If you get him to say his name backwards he has to buy a movie from you.
