Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations

The Calculating Stars and The Fated Sky by Mary Robinette Kowal were my favorite reads from last year. It's an alternate history about a math genius woman with social anxiety rising through an accelerated space program in the 50's. It's a prequel to her short story, The Lady Astronaut of Mars . All...

Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations

The “ We Are Legion, We Are Bob ” trilogy is a lot of fun. It follows a copy of a guy who had his mind uploaded as an A.I. and then put into a space probe. I enjoyed the first one but haven't moved on with the series yet. My tbr pile has gotten huge after joining a fantasy Facebook group. I finally...

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

We ended up seeing Baby Driver. I really enjoyed it. It was different from what I expected from the only trailer I saw for it, but in a good way. Odd combination of surreal and graphic, but it worked. The acting was great as well. I really wanted to go see The Big Sick, but mostly just give it some ...

Anyone know anything about The Big Sick?

Date night with the wife tomorrow and choices are: Spider-Man, The Big Sick, Wonder Woman, or Baby Driver

Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations

What is it with Star Wars tie-in authors mostly having a fantasy background anyways? Threel main reasons I can think of: 1. Star Wars has a lot of fantasy elements to it, almost more in common with epic fantasy than most hard sci-fi or space opera. 2. The fantasy market blew up, so a lot of sf/f wr...

Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations

I'm currently reading Heroes Die by Matthew Woodring Stover. If you read the Star Wars New Jedi Order series, he wrote Traitor (one of the best in the series IMO). I got to hang out and have a few beers with him for a little bit at SW Celebration III a bunch of years back and he was cool, so I bough...

Well, shit, it looks like Chad has actually been using it, just actually writing it out. Who the fuck does that?

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

Hey, I found the forum again! So, about Logan...I absolutely fucking LOVED it. Easily the best X-Men movie. It finally had the gritty/bloody/violent feel that a Wolverine movie deserves, but I also loved the story. It's the only comic book/superhero movie I've seen that actually made me cry (though ...

heh... I'm using an old HP laptop at home (I think like 4gb ram and dual core processor), and carrying around an HP Stream (think Chromebook but with Windows 10). All I do anymore is write and edit text and record and edit audio. Not much power needed. I actually record using the Stream because it h...

Don't talk bad about Corel Draw! Now that Freehand is dead, it's the only vector program I use. I still can't stand Illustrator. In fact, fuck Illustrator.

I choose puppies over kittens. Kittens are super-cute, but grow up to be evil cats. Puppies grow up to be loyal man's best friend types.

I've officially quit The Walking Dead. I've always said if that person died, I was done, so I'm sticking to my guns. I may come back to it at some point in the not-so-near future, but for now I'm using that time for something else Wasn't it well known that THAT person died in the comic books, thoug...

Watched the trailer for Logan this morning...

It looks pretty badass IMO. I'm not very familiar with the "Old Man Logan" comic storyline, but I like what I'm seeing.
