Re: TV: What are you currently watching?

Haha, my g/f hates it too if it's any consolation.
It's... alright. As sitcoms go. I've seen far better and far, far worse.

Oh. At first I thought you meant this:

Swiss Army Man looks kind of hilarious. Maybe a rental, if it jumps out at me at the right time.

Re: What are you reading?

"Moneyball". This is a book full of knowledge I will never use, nor really retain all that well, but it's still somehow a page turner. I think it's the story of these guys using this new way of looking as stats for success that has me interested more than the actual history of how the new way became...

Re: TV: What are you currently watching?

Thanks to Hulu, I'm finally watching Seinfeld start-to-finish.

I really couldn't tell you why. I've had days where I kind of zone out on it after work for 2-3 episodes. Maybe it's good for that.
Jerry's audiences laugh way too hard for the punchline they're edited to. Does that bug anyone else?

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

Watched Dune (1984) for the first time ever this weekend.

Why was this popular. The hell.
The book must be ridiculously good.

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

I saw Batman v. DC Plotlines: Dawn of Spinoffs last night. For such a lengthy film, it's unbelievable how much of a hurry it was in. I'm wondering how much WB messed with it, because holy scene gaps, Batman. Everyone did good. The story even is decent. The film is really pretty (even if Supes hogs a...

11.22.63 is quite good.
Though, I swear if this turns into a 'It was me the whole time' plot, I'm quitting time travel movies for good.

Re: TV: What are you currently watching?

I gave "Supergirl" a shot, but I can't do it for the same reason I can't watch "Smallville". Where the 'Ville took Superman canon and made it all happen to pre-Supes Clark Kent, "Supergirl" is somehow an alternate reality where everything that happens to Superman happens to Supergirl instead, despit...

Re: A Fluid Guide to our Top 10 films.

I'm gonna go by Lance's rule here. Rewatchability over cinematic quality, the ones I've watched a lot and intend to watch a lot more. I've got a handful of films that I grew up on, and another lot that I often use as sleep aids because of their mellow nature or nighttime ambiance. 1. Top Gun 2. Star...

Re: Bad Movies

How have I not weighed in on this topic yet? It feels like every time I mention one of my most cherished films to anyone with even a slight film background, I get immediately discredited for having terrible taste. WHY DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND. I still can't believe people don't like Temple of Doom. And...

Re: Best films (so far) of 2015?

Lil' underwhelmed by Hunger Games 4. It's the same thing I experienced with Harry Potter, I liked the first half of the two-parter more than the finale. It feels like you have to have read the books to understand the motivations in the last 20 minutes, but even then it's flawed in the way that the o...

Re: New Star Trek.

I've never found Trek to be a binge-worthy show. TNG would just be on when I'm channel surfing, I'd watch it, then I'd move on with life. I've had it on my Netflix forever, but the mood just never strikes.

Re: Star Wars - The Force Awakens

Mine took some doing here in fair Chicago. Opening night IMAX tix sold out as soon as I discovered they were posted.
I got lucky and got some 7pm Friday night. I can wait a day for the full IMAX 3D experience as a first viewing. It'll be worth it.

So who's buying their tix tonight?

I'm gonna try to score good seats at the nice IMAX in downtown Chicago. Anyone have a better plan than 'refresh the page until they get listed'?

Re: Best films (so far) of 2015?

Yeah, the score was definitely channeling Mass Effect's in many of its 'quiet moment on Mars' scenes. It works for ME, but I think having played that game kinda made it jump out awkwardly for me here. It's a solid film, though thinking about it the next day, it didn't really punch me in the emotions...

Re: Upcoming Films Thread

I am really looking forward to 'The Martian'. I read the book during a shooting in London earlier in the year and loved it. The film seems to be hitting every note perfectly. My lady read that book a while ago and is super psyched for it. I'm giving it the Interstellar treatment and avoiding all tr...
