I meant Lance ;) 'Bout to turn the hose on me. Computers are not as sensitive as people seem to think, most of your connections are pretty comprehensive. Be wary of static, get yourself a static band if you're really nervous or live in a high natural static environment: https://www.amazon.com...

Re: ITT Chad Probably Builds A PC

Will eventually purchase two more NVMe drives and make a RAID0 out of it, because I'm a crazy person. Fuck yeah, bigger balls than I would ever have!! Guinea pig that shit, I hope it works out. Your rig is going to be better than anything I've ever even been in a room with. I don't want to sound we...

Re: ITT Chad Probably Builds A PC

Yeah, the Quadro cards were what we had at Fincher's all these years - various version of them. For the most part, those cards would probably have their asses handed to them by even the 1080 ti's now (the Quadro cards we had are easily five years old now). Agreed, at the price. The QUADRO GP100 pus...

Re: ITT Chad Probably Builds A PC

... The Fusion drives we've had in the past were OK, but not great, and there's been far too many RAID0 crashes for me to wanna go back down that dark alley. Dude, RAID0 with critical data is like teasing an alligator with your genitals. SSD are super fast but do tend to have a short lifespan, thou...

Re: ITT Chad Probably Builds A PC

Correct. Pretty much every machine I've had the pleasure of using at work has had dual processors, so if I'm going single processor, I'd better damn sure get one that *should* do the trick. Even the dual processors at the office struggle mightily with the files we work on, so I'm holding out hope t...

Re: ITT Chad Probably Builds A PC

Given the current state of cryptocurrency mining, the GPU's I need also are in the middle of a mass shortage, going for twice the retail price. Figures. (Looking for one (or TWO) GeForce GTX 1080 ti video cards, for this machine). And Martin, yeah... too small a case was a concern. I almost went wi...

Currently on season four of Peaky Blinders. Started the series a couple weeks back. Cruised through. Enjoyable... reminds me of Boardwalk Empire.
Oh, shit, it is season 4... heh, I binged seasons 1-3 thinking it was only one season. My bad. In my defense, each season is only six episodes long.

Re: TV: What are you currently watching?

The Magicians season 2: Apparently, in this universe, you must be an unrelenting and unapologetic piece of shit to wield the magical gift of magical magic. It's a good show, like Hogwarts University or some other analogy that conveys an adult(ish) version of Harry Potter, every character in it just ...

Re: TEAM 3 - Faldor / Lance / Owen W. / (Fig)

Just to keep this moving forward, to give my actors reference as to what still needs to be done, and so I could lay everything out in the timeline to speed up editing once I have the referenced shots, I filled the voids with crude storyboard draw-ups. There's still much work to be done but at least ...

As far as graphics, if you're using adobe products for editing/ compositing, make sure your card supports cuda.

Re: ITT Chad Probably Builds A PC

Make sure you get a power supply with enough juice to run the features that your motherboard and graphics card(s) boast. Liquid cooling is essential for AMD and video editing so good choice there. Are you going with solid state drives, standard HDD, or a combination? I would recommend a combination ...

Re: ITT Chad Probably Builds A PC

I have built and repaired more PCs than I care to remember, for many different tasks. None in the last year but I did just upgrade my youngest kid's to a liquid cooled CPU system. I have never installed the hardware for reading the RED memory cards but, in my experience, it's all pretty straight for...

First on the agenda, "The Hell With This" podcast will no longer be the signature podcast for the site. Instead, "Extended Edition" will be placed in its position of prominence and henceforth all links will be adjusted accordingly.

Re: TV: What are you currently watching?

Just finished Peaky Blinders season two, story not as enthralling as season one but still enjoyable. Well filmed but the redundant slow motion factory shots to bridge scenes was kind of lazy. Kind of seems like they blew their load on season one and tried to roll over to go to sleep but she wanted a...

That is unless some one has something actually meaningful to discuss and the ambition to add it to the forum. Being relatively new to film making, and this ...
