Re: In this thread, we discuss our downfall(s)

The more I learn about the process of raising money with which to make films, the less likely I am to ever do such a thing. I will be forced to use my own meager funds to make any future projects because I cannot fathom how to convince someone I deserve their money to make whatever ridiculous thing ...

Re: Bad Movies

I guess I can't stand the mystery of not knowing whether a certain movie is really THAT bad, so I must watch it. For instance, I have not heard more than a single positive comment about Fant4stic, but you bet I'm going to be renting that. Maybe I just want to give everybody a fair shake. Or maybe I ...

Bad Movies

Is there anybody else who feels oddly compelled to watch horrible movies? I just watched 1998's The Avengers with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman just because I hadn't seen it before. I heard awful things and the movie lived down to the hype. The words "hot" and "mess" come to mind. Now, amazingly, I'...

Guys, everything sucks. Jonath-- erm... Mr. Frakes will not be coming in to work on his director's cuts of his episodes.

I was going to make him a pie.

Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations

Ready Player One definitely appeals to the gamer kid in me, but the longer it went on the more I realized it existed purely as an excuse to nerd out about video games. It's a whole lot of fun, but forgettable in my opinion. I hope the Spielberg movie turns out well, of course. I would recommend The ...

It's going well enough that I want to try making a Blade Runner RPG. Unless that already exists.

Re: The music that's defined us.

I got my sister's copy of First Band on the Moon in high school and loved it, but I think you encouraged me to keep listening when we became AIM friends back in the day. I'm not a superfan by any means. I only own two CDs and a smattering of their other songs. It was one of those bands that has an i...

Re: In which we discuss the things for which we are paid...

There is a chance I will be meeting Jonathan Frakes (Cmdr. William T. Riker, duh) through my TV job in the coming months. Surely this will culminate in a great and lasting friendship and we'll send each other funny greeting cards and shit.

Re: Physical Media.

I only get a digital copy of a movie if it's in a format that I can play on my TV through my little networked WDTV box. So far, I think that means 1-2 digital movies. Lately I've been more concerned with getting rid of a lot of my DVDs that I know I'll never watch again, but when I buy a disc, it's ...

Horner even scored the Jeff Goldblum-Cyndi Lauper vehicle Vibes. Which I love. I second the whole not-piloting-tiny-aircraft thing.

Re: In which we discuss the things for which we are paid...

Reality TV mostly has decent hours. It's just a factory where they churn out Reality Product Sausage. Mostly predictable at least. But it's non-union and doesn't pay as well. It's the scripted shows that I was referring to and if that's what is actually being asked - complete devotion and prioritiza...

Re: In which we discuss the things for which we are paid...

I've been continuing to work as an assistant editor, mostly in the reality TV genre, which I find most disappointing. After really burning out on a dating show pilot last fall, I decided to shun all reality work in an effort to find a job in scripted. I lucked out after five months of unemployment a...
