Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

DISNEY'S MARVEL'S GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOLUME 2

It was okay. Coulda pulled back a bit in the jokes and the spectacle. Totally lacked momentum. But also the most emotional of any Marvel film so far.
Overall I'd put this in the lower half of their library.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND was a lot of fun.
If they had leaned just a liiiittle harder on character it would've been even better but alas. Vogt-Roberts is talented dude and one to watch.

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

JOHN WICK 2 - A lot of fun. About as good as the first one. I was glad that this film actually brought up some good questions but was annoyed they didn't try to answer any of them. LEGO BATMAN - Pretty good! Though TBH the IP-crossovering left a bad taste in my mouth. SPLIT - Liked it! TONI ERDMANN ...

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

Let's see... I saw SILENCE. One of those movies where you kinda forget you're watching something that was put together by a group of people and get swept up in everything. Hard to judge on its merits in that way. But it was a hell of an experience. Very difficult to sit through. I recommend it thoug...

Re: The "I just watched a movie" thread

Saw EMPIRE OF THE SUN at Tarantino's theater.

Wasn't thrilled. Might've been that I was just in a weird mood. I dunno. Didn't do it for me.

ALLIED Awesome! Even better than I thought it would be. Not gonna change the world, but a solid, solid picture. THE LOVE WITCH Very cool film. Every single piece was an impeccable recreation of the 60's style. Lighting, lens choice, camera movement, editing, acting, pacing. Really well done. I loved...

HACKSAW RIDGE

Great! A few hokey lines but nothing terrible. War scenes were brutal.
Would've liked the lighting to be a little more contrasty, but whatever.

Re: TEAM 3 - Faldor / Lance / Owen W. / (Fig)

Haven't updated in a while, just building the anticipation and such. The video that has been shot is essentially done with editing aside from my constantly tweaking this and that. Audio is still in progress. The score for these edits are in place, as well as most of the sound effects, but there is ...

HIDDEN FIGURES Perfectly serviceable. But not much beyond that. The movie played it as safe as possible. Script was tight outside of a few groan-y lines, but there were zero risks taken. No bold choices. Unless you call pretending cigarettes didn't exist in 1961 a bold choice. Also I have issues whe...

Re: Waiting On Roxie

Not that I've directed much, but each time I've storyboarded every single shot. I hate the idea of shotlists. They do nothing for me.
Curious what I'll do if I ever actually direct a feature.

Re: Waiting On Roxie

I typically don't storyboard everything - although I'd love to. Usually, it only helps me to maximize the "cinema" visualization of a scene (in my brain) - even if I don't shoot ANY of the angles I've drawn, it still helps. I was just reading some director only storyboards action scenes. Think it w...

Re: Happy New Year, you dirty rats!

--Figure out how to start a family while maintaining a future in directing. LOL I've got the same resolutions as the last couple years: quit being a lazy asshole. I have been making slight progress each year. But only slight. By the time I'm forty-two I should be a pretty productive adult! But hone...
