Re: The Hell With This Podcast #66 - "American Movie" (1999)

Really enjoyed this episode. I saw the movie about ten years back. It definitely dials into that whole making movies in the woods with your mates that we all went through at one point or another. I tried to show the doc to Mrs Faldor but she noped out when they tried putting the guys head through th...

No, but seriously I want to know when you see shitty VFX. There was a couple of dodgy driving plates in House Of Cards, clearly they need you back! Between Homecoming, House Of Cards and the BBC series Bodyguard, it's been a pretty grim weekend of telly. I had to dig out some Monty Python after all...

I hate to say it, but Ian Fleming, Sure the Bond novels are fun but they are not "People will still be reading these in fifty years" fun like the movies.

John Scalzi’s “ The Consuming Fire ” came out last night, which was originally due out next spring which makes up somewhat for the next Expanse novel being put back. It follows a young woman ascending to the throne of a galactic empire, only to learn that their form of space travel will stop working...

Two years for an 11 min. short film. In that time I have: Re-Roofed my house by myself (mostly), leveled my back yard, built a shed, scraped and painted (some of) my house, dealt with a car accident and replacing my wife's car, re-financed my house, driven to L.A. and back, and kept my job and fami...

Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations

Columbus Day by Craig Alanso is the first in a series called Expeditionary Force was really great. It didn't reinvent the sci-fi genre or anything but it used some established tropes in a fun and enjoyable way. It's typical military sci-fi done really well. Aliens rock up and start causing shit on c...

I moved a few sequences around to make it flow a little better, dropped a shot here and there. Still trimming and tightening up this and that, coloring, working on sound. Man, there's a lot that goes into films.
Congrats on getting to the fun bit!

This is where a film actually comes together.

Re: Sci-Fi novel recommendations

I just read "We Are Legion (We Are Bob)" which was a lot of fun. A silicon valley type sells his software company and uses some of the money to register for a cryogenics programme and is immediately hit by a car. He wakes up a century later to find his mind has been uploaded into a computer and the ...

Re: So can watching TV and movies help someone's writing improve?

Stephen King might disagree - that a writer must read in order to know how to write (I'd post a link to where he said that, but I'm lazy). I'm pretty sure it's part of "On Writing". A lot of books about writing talk about how people should watch less television if they want to find more time to wri...
