I sincerely hope everyone is watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Friday nights on CW. Because I would like to go back for season 3 and be able to pay my bills. Does anybody here know the Nielsen ratings people? We need to get those numbers up.

My feature edits:
"Stay Cold, Stay Hungry" by our own Mr. Branco
"Susie Q", a black-and-white homage to New Wave movies
"The Graduá" (title may change), about a girl who moves home to the Bronx after being the first in her family to graduate college, hilarity ensues
and the upcoming
"Nia on Vacation", about a twentysomething girl who fucks off to Greece to meet the brother she never really knew, poignancy ensues

In case you didn't see it (I know it was forced upon some of you) -

A title sequence I animated with a lovely guy called Lee Daniels for a computer game based TV show here in the UK - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isiHO5KwgC4

Took about a month and I drew about 95% of the elements in Microsoft Paint! Dead proud of it.

LMAO that's awesome, Dave. I had seen the sequence before, but hearing that you made it in Microsoft Paint, makes me smile in sheer delight. What's next, Corel Draw?

Haha! I used to doodle in it in that way back in the early 90s. I did some in Photoshop but it never felt as fun so turned back to Paint.

Of course I had to bring it all back in to Photoshop afterwards before After Effects, but it was great to go back to simple stuff!

Don't talk bad about Corel Draw! Now that Freehand is dead, it's the only vector program I use. I still can't stand Illustrator. In fact, fuck Illustrator.

hahaha, wait what? Corel draw is still around? It doesn't need to be booted up in DOS?

That was fun to watch. Thank you for a month's worth of pain and suffering!

Put my hand in on two more feature edits this year, albeit in limited capacity:

"The Dirty Kind", a 1970s-ish scummy-criminals and crusading-detective-who-gets-rolled movie — supervising editor
"The Garden Left Behind", a drama about a trans woman who drives a cab, featuring Michael Madsen and Ed Asner in supporting roles — consulting editor

Needless to say, not my main source of income, but I enjoy it.

I wish I could do more. I actually turned down a feature edit this year, something a younger and hungrier version of me would never have done, because they wanted it for free and I just didn't have the time… I am not the most accomplished editor in the world but to edit a feature I require at least pizza-and-beer money.

I had an interesting experience as an editor this year—a feature I wrote-for-hire has shot and has invited me to be part of the edit, giving notes and talking with the editor and such. I'm not touching the NLE and I don't want to. It's the first time since becoming a professional editor myself that I have dealt with another editor as 'the client', and I'm learning a lot about the craft and the possibilities just by looking at another cut that I am not in charge of and offering my suggestions and giving justifications for them (because after all it's not my film and I could be overruled).

These are things for which I am paid. Just not paid very much. You wanna talk money, the highest-paid-per-hour thing I worked on this year was a corporate marketing video that I'm pretty sure was only watched by pleasant young social media managers for similar businesses. Fascinating, huh.

"consulting editor"

I'm imagining you, standing aside an editor, saying things like, "nope. nope. don't cut there-- what are you thinking?"

Two projects I've been working on air this week.

"Mr. Robot" - season 3 airs this Wednesday on USA Network (in, duh, the USA)
"Mindhunter" - season 1 releases this Friday the 13th on Netflix (the entire season, of course)

Spent well over a year (and more than one relationship) while on Mindhunter, so please check it out! Blood sweat and tears. Blood sweat and tears.

Dude, some reporter from 1977 stole your identity. He doesn't look a thing like you but he is sporting a sweet porn-stash. Heh, I'm on ep. 3 of Mindhunter.

bahaha... ah yes... had a bit too much fun in the office that day. In the meanwhile, I'm growing out my porn stash.
