I've spent the last few weeks watching the last season of Veronica Mars, what a great show. I don't know if it ever aired over here but there was a lot of talk about it on the TFN fan film board back in the day so I checked it out online.

Although it would have annoyed the hell out of me if I'd been watching at the time, I really enjoyed how the series ends on such a melancholic note restoring the status quo almost to how it had been in the pilot episode.

There have been one or two examples of how to do a movie after a failed tv series, this isn't that.

Don't get me wrong it's a much more satisfying way to wrap everything up but it doesn't really stand on its own, the first hour is the standard Let's Get The Band Back Together fair and the second is a middle of the road episode of the series.

It's by no means a bad way to wrap things up and great that the series has a sense of closure mind.

Well, least you can look for closure in the Dick Casablancas spin-off series...

...or Party Down, which is basically Veronica Mars v2.

I LOVE Veronica Mars. Such a great, great show. Also: TF.N'er Brandon Hillock plays Deputy Sachs in the show, and I occasionally run into Francis Capra (Weavel) at my local comic shop, and have even lost a game of Magic the Gathering to him. lol.

Not sure if serious suggestion or quick pun...?

Dick was by far the worst character on the show mind, why did they spend so much time with him and Logan in the last two seasons when they had a perfectly good Wallace to focus on?!

Hey cool, what was his username?

Hah, I honestly have no clue what the Dick show is about. Probably uselessness.

I don't remember any hubub about it over at TFN, but we definitely gushed over the show for a period of time on these boards. I remember when Chad was trying to look for a smallish-time actress that hadn't quite hit it big yet, I mentioned Kristen Bell because I was in love with her from VM. He was doubtful until he watched the show, then realized I know awesome chicks when I see them (we're not discussing Elisha here Chad, so shush!). I've been wrong about a lot of things, but was so right about her. I still think she's awesome.

But agree that the VM movie was a miss...

I don't remember any of that, but I'll take your word for it. I remember thinking she was odd looking, but really that's the best thing about her. I also remember watching the second season first, after I begged warner home video to send me a copy to review. Still surprised it's not on blu-ray (but then again, who would buy it now?) The show is pretty quirky and doesn't quite mesh with modern audiences. Kids these days.

In other Veronica Mars news, I watched the premier of The Good Place last night. Eh...we'll see. Seems like a show that is much better in the imagination than on the screen, but Kristen Bell is still insanely hot so I may keep watching regardless.

Priorities. Speaking of...

Started watching The Girlfriend Experience. Really solid show. Possibly too devoid of real emotion to be realistic... but then again it's basically porn, starring Elvis' granddaughter (actually).

Can't say I was blown away by it. It's a bit Star Trek: Voyager-y ('scuse my language) in that the premise is if they find out she shouldn't be there then she goes somewhere to scream forever which wouldn't make for that good of a sitcom so then what?

I was quite pleasantly surprised by 'Designated Survivor' which netflix are putting a new episode up every week at the same time it airs in the US.

Anybody catch the Westworld pilot? Pretty cool. Loved the score. They definitely packed as much as they possibly could into that 75 minutes.

I don't recall ever seeing the original movie, outside of a few things here and there. You?

The guy who orders a very dry vodka martini at the Westworld bar ends up being hunted by Yul Brynner. Seems fitting.

Things went awry at Westworld's parent company's other resorts, Medieval World and Roman World, with the observation that the spread of the malfunctions resembled that of an infectious disease. This was mentioned in passing and never followed up on, though in today's terms it would be called a computer virus / trojan / worm / whatever. Any hint of things to come in the series, what with other resorts and / or malware spreading through a network? I didn't catch the pilot last night.

There's the tease of a glitch (or malware) in the programming that's pretty well shown, but nothing concrete yet as to what the cause is. No hint of the other worlds just yet either, but I'm sure they'll tackle it in a few seasons when they run out of material. I'm not entirely sure how HBO was able to afford this massive, massive show, given the talent level involved (Anthony fucking Hopkins), and the fact that it spent well over a year in production & post just for its first season alone. How it can continue beyond this... well, who knows, but I hope it does. On the plus side, you'll be able to watch it when you come visit... assuming you're not on foot somewhere.

If by "on foot somewhere" you mean ensconced in the Iliad Bookshop, fucking around on the Monkey Island at the LA Zoo, or passed out in the shadow of the Hollywood sign, sure.
