Still loving it even after packing gear a mile up the trail and back. That tripod and head are not light.
Dude! This! THIS! This is my film making role - pack mule! I rock at that shit! Lemme know if I can help! And, uh, if it pays...
Heh, If I could employ, I would definitely pay you to carry my gear. Alas, my micro-budget consists of whatever I can pull out of my pocket on the day. Usually it's enough to cover gas and nourishment. If I do manage to get into something that does actually have a budget I'll take you up on that offer.

I have no delusions that this film is going to launch me into the film fest circuit or jump start a career as a film maker, but it is the film I'm going to look back on as the film that I proved to myself that I could do this. The film that I learned how hard it is to make a film, and how much I enjoyed making it anyway. I'm going to make more films. Maybe someday I'll make one that people really like. I just hope you guys like this one enough for what it is to say it was worth the wait.

Just waiting for the Canadian smoke to clear, hopefully before my main character gives in to his urge to cut his hair again. I have acquired a field monitor to help me see what's going on so that should save me some headaches from squinting and zooming in on the little 2.5" screen to see if things are in focus. Should speed things up a little as well, more shots in less time/ one less distraction and all that.

The plan is to head out this Thursday and, hopefully, finish shooting the majority of what's left. Pushing on.

Excellent. I take it your lead actor didn't cut his hair.

Heh, no but he is wearing hats more than usual. Unfortunately we were unable to get out on Thursday for too many reasons. It's been super hot, super dry, everything is on fire around us, I have the only reasonably running vehicle in my family until the part for my wife's car gets to the dealership, had to meet with a loan officer to refinance my house that morning... You know, the standard excuses. Right now, outside my window at 11:30 am it looks like the sun has already set and there's ash lightly falling. It's pretty surreal. It's darker than it was during the eclipse here and looks like you're in the middle of a dirty fog bank that won't burn off. Eyes watering and throat burning is not a good look in front of or behind the camera, so we continue to wait I guess. Soon.

Heh, If I could've managed that, this short would be finished by now. Now I'm racing to get the rest of my life in order just so I can beat the leaves falling off of the trees to shoot this. If I play it right I can work any seasonal changes into the story. I have most of the bright and sunny scenes shot so weather doesn't factor as much. It may even add another element. At this moment my life is consumed with shit I need to do, so what I want to do has to wait for a minute. It's frustrating, but it is what it is.

Then I'm still on schedule!! Thanks man! You wouldn't happen to have a link to your movie handy, would you?

I have other projects that I'm waiting to start until I finish this so I need to get it done even more than I want to get it done. Besides, I won't be able to stop constantly going over the shots in my head until I see them manifest in digital format.

I am still working on this even though I'm not updating. I decided, since the last three times I've set out to film have fallen through, I'll just wait until I have the new footage in hand before I go social with the progress. As it stands, I have a new shoot date set if all works out. In the meantime I have been working on what I have to the extent that I can. The voice over is in, some of the audio is locked in, I made a production logo and figured out what/how on the titles for the most part (Was there going to be a NP2K Studios sequence that I should leave room for?). It's coming along, just very slowly; but it's coming along...slowly...

Oh man, I suppose I should dig up the old "NP2k Films" logo video...... no clue where that is. Where's Bertocci when you need him?

And now, in the latest episode of Mr. Robot, they use a glitch effect that is similar to one I am using in my short. It's different enough, and in a different context, that I'm not going to worry about changing mine but I have to say my heart sank a little when it first popped up. So it goes.

HAH. My bad. While I didn't edit that particular shot(s), I did stabilize it.

My two cents: it's not something new anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it. There's a several billion people that haven't seen Mr Robot yet that NEED to see your movie. I'd argue that Requiem for a Dream was doing something similar nearly 20 years ago (and Pi, for that matter). And I'm sure plenty more before that.

It was you!!! j/k

I know it's not a new idea/effect , it's just one I'm invested in so seeing it just made me compare mine to it. My saving grace is the glitch sequences in mine are less digital (but still slightly digital) and used as vehicle to disturb normalcy. So yeah, now it feels like I'm just straight ripping off Mr. Robot
You'll see what I mean when you see it. I think the whole thing is done differently enough that most people wouldn't make a direct correlation even seeing both. In any case it's done and the only changes I plan on making were ones already in progress.
